About The Sperm Chromatin Structure (SCSA) Test

About The Sperm Chromatin Structure (SCSA) Test

The sperm Chromatin Structure Assay test is a flow cytometric assay that measures sperm DNA fragmentation and maturity. The test is completed on snap-frozen (no cryoprotectant), raw (no sperm washing) sperm collected after two to three days of sexual abstinence.

This test is used by physicians to determine if patients fall into a statistical category of men that are at increased risk for infertility. There SCSA® categories are based on the percentage of sperm that have sperm DNA fragmentation (DNA fragmentation Index, DFI) and immature chromatin structure (High DNA Stainability, HDS).

The results of the SCSA® test are interpreted by a high-complexity clinical laboratory director (HCLD, Board certified by the American Association of Bioanalyst) with over 20 years expertise in the development and interpretation of this highly complex test. SCSA Diagnostics, Inc. is approved by the Department of Health and Human Services (CLIA) providing assurance that the SCSA® test will be conducted to the highest standards and that patient data will be handled and archived in an appropriate manner.
SCSA® test results will be sent back to your referring physician from the Fertility & IVF Center of Miami, who may contact SCSA Diagnostics, Inc. directly for further consultation. Should a problem be detected, your phsycian will prescribe the best method of treatment.
SCSA® testing is often recommended by physicians when patients have conditions including:
