 | Dr. Michael H. Jacobs is the Medical Director of the Fertility & IVF Center. He is a Diplomate Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, subspecialty in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Jacobs completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City in 1983, and his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. Dr. Jacobs worked in private practice in Berkeley, California and served as Associate Medical Director of the Pacific Fertility Center in San Francisco, California, prior to establishing the Fertility & IVF Center of Miami, in 1991. Dr. Jacobs is member of numerous scientific societies such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART). |
Fernando M. Akerman, M.D., Associate Medical Director |
 | Dr. Fernando M. Akerman has been the Associate Director of the Fertility & IVF Center of Miami since 1999. He is a native of Argentina and is fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1997, and his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Louisville, Kentucky in 1999. Before that he graduated with honors from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he also completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992. Dr. Akerman completed an Intership in Pathology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine, New York. Dr. Akerman is Board Certified in Ob/Gyn and is a Diplomate Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, subspecialty in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Akerman is member of numerous scientific societies such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). |
Armando E. Hernandez-Rey, M.D., Assistant Medical Director |
 | Dr. Hernandez-Rey completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the UMDNJ School of Medicine. He is a Diplomate Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, subspecialty in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Hernandez-Rey is a member of numerous professional societies such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (SGI), the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Hernandez-Rey is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for the prestigious peer reviewed journal Fertility & Sterility, and has published several articles and chapters in the medical literature. Dr. Hernandez-Rey is the only Infertility specialist certified in Robotic Surgery in South Florida, and has performed numerous procedures including tubal reanastomosis procedures, myomectomies, and severe endometriosis cases for the management of infertility. His interests are primarily Fertility Preservation in Cancer (and patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and in Reproductive Surgery. |
Jeffrey J. Knickerbocker, Ph.D., Laboratory Director |
 | Dr. Jeffrey J. Knickerbocker is a Certified Andrologist, Embryologist and High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director. He earned a Master's Degree in Embryology at Clemson University in 1979, a Ph.D. degree in Reproductive Physiology and Endocrinology at the University of Florida in 1985. In 1989, Dr. Knickerbocker completed a National Institute of Health Fellowship in Reproductive Physiology and Endocrinology at Colorado State University. Dr. Knickerbocker joined the team at the Fertility & IVF Center of Miami in 1999. |
